Video Wall Solutions for spectacular installations

A video wall consists of multiple computer monitors, video projectors, or television sets tiled together contiguously or overlapped in order to form one large screen. Video Walls (also known as Video Tiles) are fully supported within the MediaSignage platform. You have two options when creating a large scale video wall.

Option#1: high end video card with multi video outs

The MediaSignage mediaBOX has 3 video outputs including VGA, HDMI and DVI. However you can only drive up to 2 screens at one time (i.e.: VGA and DVI or DVI and HDMI etc.). If you need 3 or 4 screens powered by a single computer you can opt to build your own computer and get a high end video card such as the AMD Radeon HD 5870.

Each screen division can be as large as 4096 width x 4096 height. The drawback with such a configuration is that image rendering must be processed internally using the CPU and video card. You will need a strong processor like the Intel i7 and a high end video card. You are also limited by the number of screens you have connected. Benefits include low cost and the flexibility to choose any screen you want. You will normally spend less when using this configuration.

You can mix screen sizes and the overall configuration is very flexible. Split the screen into any number of screen divisions or create a single screen division that spreads across multiple screens (max: 4096x4096).

Pros:

• Inexpensive
• Pick any hardware screen type / vendor
• Mix screen sizes and resolutions
• Only a single hardware device to manage

Cons:

• Processing is done by the CPU / video card and may lag if insufficient power
• Multi screen configuration sometimes buggy with some video card vendors
• Limited support from video card vendors

Option#2: professional video wall daisy chain from NEC

The preferred method to building a reliable video wall is to choose a professional video wall supplier such as NEC. You will be able to create immense video matrixes, with arrays as large as 10 by 10 whilst bezels can be virtually invisible starting as thin as 2.7mm.  Flexible options with simple paired or 4 panel solutions for reception halls and public spaces to mega walls for events and situations where presence is everything. Utilize the Daisy Chain Option Board to set up large arrays of screens, simply,  with full vendor support. And while the cost is much higher, you get what you pay for.

• Requires specific vendor displays. Price varies.
• Requires compatible hardware such as dual link DVI cords
